한국 출생율 3년째 사상 최저치 기록

한국의 윤석열 대통령은 기록적인 저출산 문제를 해결하기 위한 과감한 조치를 촉구했습니다. 한국은 3년 연속으로 신생아보다 사망자 수가 더 많아져 다시 한 번 세계에서 출생률이 가장 낮은 국가를 기록했습니다. 분석가들은 생활비 상승과 태도 변화가 원인일 수 있다고 말합니다. 프랭크 스미스가 보도합니다.

작년 한국의 출산율은 여성 1인당 0.78명으로, 정부가 처음으로 출산율을 추적하기 시작한 1970년 이래 최저 수준으로 떨어졌습니다. 이민 없이 안정적인 인구를 유지하기 위해 필요한 2.1 퍼센트보다 훨씬 낮은 수치입니다.
"정책적으로 볼 때, 아이를 키우면서 가장 중요한 것은 아이가 자랄 수 있는 환경에서 부부가 직면하는 경제적 부담이라고 생각합니다. 또한 우리는 사회를 유지하기 위해 일할 사람들이 필요하지만, 경제 구조가 무너지기 시작하면 한국 사회는 쇠퇴할 수밖에 없습니다."
여성들이 욜로(YOLO)-인생은 한 번 산다(You-Only-Live-Once)라는 태도를 수용하거나 부담감을 주는 엄마 역할에서 벗어나면서 삶에 대한 생각도 바뀌고 있습니다.
“친구들이 결혼해서 아이를 낳는 것을 보고, 친구들처럼 평범한 삶을 살 생각을 했어요. 그러나 정상적인 삶을 살기 위한 척도는 개인에 따라 다르듯, 저는 아이를 낳고 행복을 찾는 것보다 내 삶에 초점을 맞춰 나 자신을 행복하게 만들기로 결심했습니다.”
정부는 20년 동안 다양한 정책에 수천억 달러를 썼지만 여전히 추세를 반전시키지 못하고 있습니다. 윤석열 대통령은 최근 소아과 센터를 방문해 어린이들의 건강관리 개선을 촉구했습니다. 그러나 그는 집권 초기에 여성가족부를 해산하고 최근에 신혼부부에 대한 혜택과 각 아이들에 대한 장려금의 극적인 증가를 제안했던 인구정책의 고위 관리를 밀어냈습니다.
윤 대통령은 지난 5월 일부 젊은 남성 반페미니스트들의 지지에 힘입어 당선됐습니다. 여성에 대한 부차적인 차별은 성별 임금 격차가 큰 채 지속됩니다. 전문가들은 그것이 복잡하다는 것을 인정했습니다.
"저출생 원인으로 불안정한 고용 불평등, 성차별적 사회 문제, 아동 문제, 출산 경력 격차 등에서 한 가지만 지적할 수는 없습니다. 결국 여성들은 아이를 낳고 키울 것이냐, 경력을 쌓으며 일할 것이냐 둘 중 하나를 선택할 것을 강요받고 있습니다." _박민아 정치하는엄마들 활동가
12월에 정부는 새로운 출산 장려책을 도입하고 성차별 문제를 해결할 것이라고 말했지만 동시에 이민을 증가시킬 것이라고 발표했습니다.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has called for bold measures to address the country's record-low birth rate. The country is once again the lowest globally with deaths outnumbering newborns for the third year in a row. Analysts say rising living costs and a change in attitudes may be to blame. Frank Smith reports.

South Korea's birth rate last year dropped to its lowest level since 1970 when the government first began tracking such data to 0.78 children per woman. well below the 2.1 percent needed to maintain a stable population without immigration.
"In terms of policy, I think the most important thing about raising a child is the financial burden facing couples in an environment where children can grow.
We also need people to work to support society, but if the economic structure starts to collapse South Korean society will inevitably decline."
Thoughts about life are also changing with women breaking from their burden-beating mothers to embrace a YOLO- You-Only-Live-Once attitude.
"When I saw my friends getting married and having childern, I thought about living a normal life like theirs. But the measure for living a normal life depends on the individual. so I decided to make myself happy as the focus of my life rather than having c achild and finding happiniess there.
The govermnet has spent hundreds of billions of dollars on various policies over two decades, but has still failed to turn the trend around. President Yoon Suk-yeol recently visited a pediatric center where he called for improvements in children's healthcare.
But early in his administration, he dissolved the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and recently pushed out the top official on population policy who'd suggested a dramatic increse in benefirs for newlyweds and incentives for each child born.
President Yoon was elected last May in part through support from young male anti-feminists. Patrialchal discrimination against women endures, with a wide gender pay gap. Experts admit it's complicated.
"You can't point to just one cause, such as unstavle employment unequal housing, sexist social problems, childare issues, and the child-bearing careear gap. In the end, women are forced to make choices give birth and raise a child, or build a career."

In December the goverment said it would introduce new childbirth incentives and address gender discrimination, but at the same time it also announced it would increase immigraion.
